DOT to hold open house on Hwy 12 phase 7 & 8

the washington state department of transportation will host an open house this evening in touchet to discuss the next phase of the highway 12 expansion to four lanes. the meeting will be held at touchet high school from 4:30 to 7pm to discuss the enviromental impacts on phases 7 & 8 of the project.
 

School district continues reorganization

the walla walla school district continues to make adjustments to the districts administrative team. wa-hi assistant principal brett cox is moving to garrison middle school to take over the same position. for cox, it is a return to the middle school system where he started his administrative career.

this marks the latest in a series of moves that the district has made in an effort to cut cost due to state funding cuts to public education.
 

M-F to hold district wide ELL parents night

the milton-Freewater school district will hold it first ever district-wide english language learners parents night this evening. the event will be held at central middle school and will run from 6 to 8 pm. david marshall director of student services for the district says they expect between 3oo and 400 people, and the event allows parents with students at multiple schools to attend just one event.
 

Bail amendment headed to November ballot

washington state voters will have the final say on how the legal system should proceed on issuing bail to some of the most violent accused. the state legislature endorsed a state amendment granting judges the abilty to deny bail to a suspect when they are accused of a crime that carries a possible life sentence and based on evidence, is a danger to the community.

the amendent stems from the killing of four lakewood police officers last november by maurice clemons who was out on bail when he committed the crime. the ammendment will appear on the november ballot.
 

6 semi-finalist selected for superintendent of WWPS

the walla walla school board narrowed the field of applicants to 6 last night for the district superintendent position.

Ron Castilleja-Superintendet of Kiona-Benton, Becky Imler-superintendent Wapato, bob kuehl-assistant superintendent tumwater, mick miller-superintendent deer park, john steach-assistant superintendent richland, and dan winter-superintendent-shelton, will now move on to interviews that will take place on saturday march 13th. each will go through a one hour interview with the board on saturday and by saturday evening the finalist will be named for the open position. Saturdays interviews begin at 9am at the school district offices and are open to the public.
